Social Work in Action

came to Lha last week as a student at the Tulane School of Social Work, and will be completing the last semester of my Master’s degree here in McLeod Ganj as an intern with Lha. The staff and volunteers are extremely friendly and welcoming, and I am already learning so much from everyone I meet. Coming to McLeod Ganj is not only an opportunity to volunteer and give, but a unique way to learn about Tibetan culture, Buddhism, and to meet people from all over the world. So far it is clear that Lha is living up to their mission to provide much needed education and social services to the Tibetan community. Beyond the regular services provided here, I am excited to be a part of an eyeglasses program, which will hopefully start in the next few weeks. Through this one-month project Lha hopes to provide at least 100 Tibetan community members with an eye doctor appointment and, if necessary, glasses. I hope that every student and volunteer at Lha will take advantage of this blog to inform others about what is happening at Lha and to share their own experiences!
