Louisiana Himalaya association Inc. (LHA)

The Louisiana Himalaya Association Inc. (LHA) is a nonprofit, social service organization dedicated to the Tibetan refugee population and to the indigenous people of the Himalayan regions of India and Nepal. LHA raises funds and organizes volunteer efforts to support social service programs in India's Himachal Pradesh and the surrounding areas, focusing primarily on Tibetan refugee resettlement via education, employment, healthcare and housing. Recently, a major fundraising effort culminated in the purchase of the “Ahimsha House” in Dharamsala, India – a new four-story social service building for Lha Charitable Trust. This enabled the expansion of Lha Charitable Trust's endeavors, ensured it's operation becoming fully self-sufficient, and helps secure it's future. In Louisiana, LHA makes available the profound, centuries-old wisdom and culture of the Tibetan people by offering free community events: hosting teachings and lectures by visiting Tibetan lamas and co-sponsoring Cultural events with area Universities. For more information about LHA USA please visit to this site. www.lhainfo.org

Omprakash supports Lha projects by providing financial support and volunteers. Omprakash offers a free database of international volunteer opportunities, and enables 'Partners' like Lha to use the website for recruiting volunteers and donations. In 2008, Omprakash kindly donated 30,000 books to Lha, which were distributed to local Tibetan and Indian schools, charitable organizations and libraries. Omprakash builds partnerships with grassroots health, education, and environmental projects around the world, and connects them with volunteers, donors, and classrooms that can learn from and support their work. They do this by facilitating communication, collaboration, and mutual learning within a diverse international network of social actors. They offer Volunteer Grants to help qualified applicants build lasting relationships with our outstanding Partners, and they enable these Partners to receive tax-deductible donations from their dedicated supporters.
