Lha depends on the goodwill of volunteers and monetary and material donations for it to provide essential rehabilitation resources to the exiled Tibetan community. Lha is a non-profit organization dependent on monetary contributions from philanthropic corporations and generous individuals. In India, even a little goes a long way, and a lot goes very far!

Lha at New Delhi 2Lha Charitable Trust was awarded the second position in the category "Best Practices of Social Media Usage" in the 3rd eNGO Challenge Award - Celebrating Digital Information Tools for Communities - South Asia, 2014.

Lha at New Delhi 5The Award recognises the best NGO practices of using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The presentation ceremony was held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on 5th November.

From thousands of NGOs around South Asia, 307 NGOs from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were nominated. From these, 49 finalists were selected to compete in the eight different categories of which one is the "Best Practices of Social Media Usage". A team of three, Lha's Deputy Director Mr Lobsang Rabsel, Office Secretary Mr Tsering Wangdue and General Secretary Ms Dukthen Kyi, represented Lha Charitable Trust.

Lha at New Delhi 1The day's program also included all finalist NGOs setting up a stall where they displayed banners about their own organisations, distributed brochures and pamphlets, introduced each other to their works and sold their products.

The event was attended by hundreds of people and being the only Tibetan NGO participating in the event, Lha staff grabbed the opportunity to talk about Tibet, its current situation and Tibetans in exile. The team also explained the work and projects of Lha and distributed Contact magazine, pamphlets on HIV/AIDS awareness and environment protection.

Lha at New Delhi 6In the afternoon, Ms Dukthen Kyi gave a short presentation about our organisation and responded to questions from the audience and judges. Lha was awarded the trophy for first Runners-up, a certificate of excellence and gift. Lha's team thanked the organisers Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF), New Delhi and Public Interest Registry (PIR), USA for providing the platform and recognition.
