lha 2008 cultural exchanges a

This year, we have already organized three cultural exchange programs between several US universities and Lha students, and there are three more scheduled before the end of the year. This demonstrates the success of the program, which began in 2003. Please see our Programs and Services page for details about how we run our cultural exchange programs.

During each program this year, Lha students have shown their US student partners around the Dharamsala region, including their homes, the Dalai Lama's temple in McLeod Ganj, the Tibetan Library and government area of Gangchen Kyishong (the area of lower Dharamsala that houses the Tibetan Government in Exile), the surrounding areas of McLeod Ganj, such as Bhagsu, Dharamkot, and Triund, the Norbulingka Institute (which was founded by the Dalai Lama in order to preserve Tibetan art and culture), the Tibetan settlement of Tso Pema, and the Buddhist monasteries and schools of Bir. Lha also provided US students with yoga classes for exercise and recreation.

Lha further connected each student group with a different speaker to increase their knowledge of Tibetan culture - an ex-political prisoner who served in a Chinese communist prison, a Buddhist lecturer, and a Tibetan medicine lecturer.
