Homestay in a Tibetan family |
|
Lha arranges a homestay of one month with Tibetan refugee families. The cost of the homestay program is $500 (including accommodation, breakfast and dinner). The Homestay program is provided by Lha to directly benefit the daily life of Tibetan refugee families. The profits from the home-stay are entirely received by the host families. This monetary assistance is a part of the wider educational, cultural and social services we offer for Tibetan refugees at Lha. An objective behind the Homestay with Tibetan family program is to let the world come to know about our daily life – providing you with a valuable opportunity for cultural and knowledge exchange. During the month you will share meals and take part in daily life with your Tibetan family. Your cultural experience will be intensified and if you are interested in the Tibetan language – you will be able to practice your language skills in the home. It can give you unforgettable insights into ritual, family and life “behind closed doors” in the Tibetan refugee community. If you wish, members of the family will be able to take you on a local tour, and if you need a lecture regarding our culture and current situation, that can be organized. When you apply for the homestay program it is important that you understand that living standards of Tibetan refugees in India are very low. The basic facilities that are provided by the family might be less than what you are used to. Tibetans living in exile are open to learning about people from different cultures and sharing the difficulties and realities of living in exile. Tibetan people, whilst generally shy in nature, are very welcoming and always smile beautiful smiles easily! Lifelong friendships are formed through happy homestay experiences with Tibetan family.
